Prayer Newsletter 2020

Dear Lightwave prayer supporters,

As we approach autumn, with cooler temperatures, the leaves changing colour on the trees and harvest time, we give thanks to God for changing seasons and his goodness and provision. Psalm 100:5 "For the LORD is good; His loving kindness is everlasting And His faithfulness to all generations."

There is much to celebrate and give thanks to God for during September;

  • On the 19th of September Laurence Singlehurst and Sally Gaze led a morning on Zoom on Small group leader training, based on the Cell Uk book "Developing Leaders".  19 people joined together to learn, pray and discuss how to empower small groups for mission, including looking at values and beliefs.

  • Also on the 19th of September, Graham Miles, Licensed Lay Evangelist and Lightwave Rural Chaplain was re-licensed to the Lightwave Community.  A socially distanced service took place at Hasketon Church, where Graham was joined by family and friends to mark this occasion.

  • On the 23rd of September, the first Suffolk in Prayer Ecumenical leaders meeting took place on Zoom, to discuss plans for a "Power of Prayer: How to pray in a pandemic" week, taking place during 15th to 22nd November 2020.  More details will follow about this soon.

  • On the 24th of September a Learning Community Facilitators training session took place, with a group of 5 people, socially distanced.  Tim Lea from the National Fresh Expressions organisation led the facilitators through how to encourage and support the Lightwave Community groups with their mission.  A really fun morning was had by all!

  • On 27th of September, Kathy Wilson, along with several others from the Diocese, was Licensed as a Pioneer Minister, at Bury St Edmunds Cathedral.  We give thanks for Kathy's ministry at Farm by the Water and her involvement in the Growing in God in the Countryside staff team.

The Lightwave community would appreciate prayer for;

  • On Sunday 4th October, a joint drive in Harvest service takes place with Suffolk Young Farmers, Bury St Edmunds Cathedral and the Lightwave Community in Trinity Park, Ipswich, (Suffolk Showground).  Gates open at 1pm and the service starts at 3pm, which will be led by Bishop Mike, The Cathedral Dean and Archdeacon Sally Gaze.

  • The Lightwave Community Bishop's Mission Order AGM takes place on Monday 5th of October at 7pm on Zoom.  Pray for those coming and those preparing for this meeting.

  • The work of Red Lodge and for Diane Grano and her team and in particular the mission and ministry of the Red Lodge Café.  A childrens' summer holiday club took place in August and the Café is core to its mission.  Invitations were advertised to explore faith and discipleship growth.  There were 56 sign ups, 26 volunteers from 4 churches and 8 schools from 6 villages where children attended.  Parenting courses are being offered as the next step and Faith Focus is aimed at those families who engaged with the Holiday club.  There is also a Red Lodge Foodbank and they are working with Kickstart and Christians against poverty.

  • Kathy Wilson is leading a Change Management workshop, in the context of church, on Wednesday 15th October on Zoom, between 10am and 3pm.  For more information and how to book go to; https://www.light-wave.org/events.
